See the crack? That's as good of a shot as I can get.

I knew something was up when it didn't want to start warm, so I fiddled with the jetting and it seemed to get better, but when I went to drag race an R with an LRD 300 kit, right after the launch (I had him) it sputtered down the track, then I couldn't put a load on it without killing it. When I went to change the spark plug, thinking it was fouled, I noticed the premix leaking out the base stud. Had to ride back to the truck with the choke on

Well F**K!!! Do you have a late model cylinder for me to port? Given your misfortune, I won't charge you a dime for the porting---you just pay the shipping. I will also make it a bit more tame on the exhaust, to keep more bottomend, as you thought it was a bit lacking on the bottom. This SUCKS!!!

PS. I can't see the crack, but I can see where the premix oozed out.:runaway:

Do you think that the issue was caused by my porting, or the fact that the earlier aluminum was softer??? If you think it was my fault, I want to make it right. Let me know. :(

A little bit better picture. Right in the middle of the "clean spot"

You know, when I found it, I really wasn't at all upset. You said, and I had heard before, that the early ones like to crack that way, so I assumed it to be a calculated risk. Besides, it's just another reason for me to be happy I decided not to race again this year, because I've had nothing but problems that would have been seriously aggravating to keep up with during the year. (i.e. injuries, bad stator, tires that won't seal, cracked cylinder, etc.)

Yeah, I was mulling over what to do about this. I'm sort of searching around for a good deal on a powervalve cylinder, but the last one I saw was $1000.

About my '88 cylinder: Is there much more that can be done to it? Remember, it's got the hack job on the intake bridges, then your guided mild job on the transfers, topped off with my jacked up dremel-job on the boost ports. It'd be nice to not have to spend another $275 to carbide another cylinder, but would it be better to start fresh? Plus, I don't know if that bore's rusted over *runs out to check*
