I'm in the same boat you are, sir. I've been jamming on Criagslist for-EVAR and nothing has come from it.

I hope you have better luck than I.

We can whine about it at the Vortex next weekend. :D

I'm looking everywhere. Right now it seems the only people interested in me are sales positions. I'd rather work for $10 and hour than commission. I hate it. I really fucking hate it. I'm one look away from quitting today, and I can't afford to do that.

I just can't find anything closer to home than Marietta, which is where I already am.
My laundry list of reasons why I need to get out of this "company" will go unmentioned for now, but the commute is just a small part of it.

I went two months without work last summer because I left Cobb County Toyota when I finally got too fed up to see straight. I can't afford that again either. But I need something that will work with me on my school schedule, and for some reason it's hard to get an admin/clerical position anywhere in Kennesaw or Acworth that *doesn't* want you working nights or weekends.

It's hard to find a admin/clerical job period. None that I have found will even consider me. Dudes can do that job too! :(

Do you like kids? Because most day cares/preschools hire college kids and they work with your schedule. Plus you never have to work weekends.

I'm starting to look in that direction, especially since I'm about to declare Early Childhood Education for my major at school.

I was going to get a job at a daycare once. The pay was pretty crappy, though. Like $7/hr. I didn't take it. I don't really make much more an hour now though... but it is enough to make a difference in the paycheck I bring home every week. Plus I have benefits, and paid holidays and vacation.

The average preschool pays around $12.27 an hour and most daycares pay around $9 or $10 an hour while you're an assistant. More once you are the head teacher.

that's to work in a pre-k classroom assisting the preschool teacher... you get paid less than the teacher to do just as much work. when you're not doing something in the curriculum such as after school care or something of the sort, you don't get paid as much.

and you have to be certified to be a preschool teacher.

GA will pay for the certification. Shy has some websites with details. I'll get them when I get home.

honestly it's not hard being certified... what's hard is actually doing the job without being trained. i would have no idea how to do it unless i'd taken classes... well maybe not no idea, but i'd be clueless on a lot of shit

You'd figure it out quick. Shy's first day she was told hello and then thrown into a room and told to close by herself. She hadn't even learned the kids names yet.

yea and pre-k teachers may get paid 7-12 dollars an hour but are allowed to spend 6 thousand dollars a year in comparison to kindergarten where kids are supposed to be there and they're given a whole lot less than 6k its b.s.

Plus you can talk to the parents of the kids you are watching and get babysitting jobs on the side. Often one Saturday night will pay the same as an entire week if you are in the right area.

I know. My brother can't even find a job in construction or sweeping someone's shop. This time last year he could have gone out and got 5 jobs a day if he wanted. Now he's been over a month and not found a single one.

A friend of mine is a recruiter up here in NYC. She says they have to dumb down people resumes to get them work because no high paying jobs are available.

Scary times.

I can't even find a low paying job. Right now it seems sales are the only places let to work. :(

atl may be tougher than here, but i'll put it out anyway. this could apply to you as well, but since you said your brother was in construction/ manual labor already, many tree care companies are hiring now, simply b/c the workload has grown now that many freelance climbers and such all headed south for the hurricanes. arborguard, davey(residential) and bartlett are all great to work for with good benefits and all that, and most would start someone with little/no experience around $11.00per hr. training/certifications/etc... can eventually reach the $18-22 per hr range after a few years.
regardless best of luck finding something you enjoy that still keeps you comfortable financially.
