So my wife was starting to get sick from the stress of a commissioned job, so she transferred to my store last week and just worked as the service cashier. She had planned on working here for a couple of months and looking for a part-time job to go along with it. However, AutoNation is making BIG cut-backs and today they "let her go" because she didn't want to go back to working in sales on commission. My Goddamned GM thought if he brought her over and then gave her the ultimatum, it'd work (he was the GM of her store and then transferred here and tried to bring her with him, but she wouldn't go).
So as of noon, she does not have a job. Also, I may be looking for another job soon. They are making changes to all of the internet departments of ALL of their stores, and my manager is convinced that she will keep them from making those changes to ours. I don't see how she can make our store the only one that doesn't change. It makes no sense.
I will not go back to 100% commission.
Anyone have any positions open where they work?
I don't have many qualifications beyond military and longevity, but Shy has a B.A. in Business and Marketing and she is bilingual. She tends to be over qualified for most jobs.
Please help a midget out. It's been a bad day and it only started an hour ago. :(

I'm not really sure what positions they're looking to fill right now. I think it's mostly higher up, but just in case, have her check www.benchmarkbrands.com

no. it's a foot health catalog company. no salespeople. There are some positions in the marketing dept, I just don't know what they are.

I don't know how she might feel about it, but if she really wants to stay away from commission work, she should try one of the hospitals. Probably public relations, marketing, or purchasing (working with vendors). Maybe even customer service, that is if she's even willing to work in a hospital.

Thank you both.
Last night my GM came in apologizing for having to let her go like that, and let us know that he and his wife owned a preschool, and had just sold it. He said his sister-in-law is the director of it now and he set Shy up with an interview for Monday morning.
Shy's been looking for something like that for months now, but every place she's tried has said they needed a degree in education, not business and marketing.

I sent it to her right after I posted, but forgot to ask if she had looked at it. It sounds like something she would like.

She has tried a few hospitals and everywhere she has been, they've told her they weren't hiring.

If you need something right away. id suggest a staffing agency. They get payed for placing you so your sure to land a job in a week or so. While you look for better opportunities.

Depends on the fields, they are always looking for tellers, although those are variable pay jobs. Admin Assists are pretty much going away, so best to get in as an FSR or some type of medical profession right now. :) Usally Sypherion (the staff agency) as some decent stuff.

I disagree with your disagree :P In the last salary survey I completed, the results showed administrative assistants down over 30% from 2006, across all functions and Lines of Business, turn over is also up over 40%, which might explain the ads :)

They have ALL tried to put her into warehouses on Fulton Industrial. Before she transferred she had been looking for better and tried a lot of agencies.

Almost all of the admin assist jobs require 3 to 5+ years experience and/or some kind of degree that isn't business and marketing.

never hurts to apply/email your resume. especially if it's just emailing her resume. it takes 2 min!

She did. She sent it everywhere and didn't get anything. Turns out it just took her getting let go and my GM feeling guilty and hooking her up with a job she has been wanting for a long time now. :)
