no that's not it. It was actually on Aime network. I don't know if it was a show or a one time movie.
Basically
It was a fighter jet in space that can turn into a robot. They flew to a planet and some hologram lady was brain washing every one with music. At one point they (the 2 pilots who were friends then enemies then friends) fought "the ghost" or shadow or something. It was something they made it sound like it was an awesome ship they were kinda afraid of. The hologram lady was piloting by computer/mind. One of the pilots also had some type of esp to communicate.
At one point this HUGE robot ship transformer thing rose up from the planet surface.
I only got part of the show but one of the characters was a girl that is in love with the pilot. The girl was held hostage by the hologram/computer lady.
I fell asleep and never got the rest. Hope that clears it up but i doubt it. i was nodding in and out trying to watch it.

I did they only show current shows. And it was not on the list of the normal programing so It leads me to believe it was a one time movie special showing or something.
I knew I should have wrote it down but i was half a sleep. What I did catch it was really good.
On a side note the anime network have Guyver listed on it, but no show times. I would LOVE them to show that!!!!
On a side side note. I wonder why catlipz/Cinnamonsticks and teetee (taishi) have not chimed in. Im sure they may know what im talking about.

I don't know which you're actually talking about, so there's both.

There are so many robot animes that use the same basic story lines its hard to pin it down. When I read the description the first thing that popped in my head was robotech/macross.

Robotech is the US name for Macross. The original tv series was called Super Dimension Fortress Macross, which was shortened to SDF-1 Macross, then Macross. The Robotech Macross Saga is the long running tv anime that started back in 1982, on US TV no less!!! OMG anime on tv in 82! Now that I feel like an even greater old fart you should check out the tv series. The whole thing has a pretty nice story and is pretty epic and goes thru several generations. The whole thing is broken down into 3 different story arcs.
The Macross plus, Macross 7 are side stories, OAV's and movies based off the same univerese.
ADV films a few years back rereleased the whole Robotech saga on dvd with brand new film transfer that improved the originals, plus surround sound. It might be pretty cheap to get now and would be a great start to the whole macross world.
lolololol.
you really don't know?
this is like basic anime 101.
BACK TO SCHOOL FOR YOU!
but just to clarify, macross = movie, robotech = series
robotech was the name given to the series when it was brought over to NA and merged with two other anime. macross became the subtitle, but they're both still the same universe.
THE END.

Yea I miss the old hand drawn anime look. Everything is colored digitally and uses cg effects now day, which is cool and all. But I still like my old classics with their cheesy j-rock/metal soundtracks and crazy animation.

Yeah. What dr00 said is correct. However aren't the 3 different story arcs are really not related to eachother excpet they take place in the same universe, or am I mistaken?
Also Macross Plus is extremely badass. If anyone has a copy that they'd let me borrow?

they're all completely different from the original, so it doesn't really matter.
like i said, same universe, implying not the same story :p
but... i've actually never seen them lmao.
i mean sure bits and pieces, i vaguely remember seeing the end of macross II, i saw a couple robotech episodes when it was on adult swim..... etc. etc.

Shoujo
The 3 robotech/macross arcs are labeled as the first, second and third Macross Wars. They pretty much go in timeline like said before. Instead of resetting the story and doing something new in the Universe ala Gundam/Final Fantasy, Macross keeps on building on its story. They'll reference old events, have offspring of older characters become new main characters as things keep progressing.

I used to watch robotech when I was a weeeeee lil lad after school. Then later on I used to watch it before I'd head out to highschool in the mornings when it came on the scifi channel mornings. I think my favorite arc was the 3rd war. I always thought the ruined earth setting was cool and them motor bikes that would transform into a battle armour around the driver were the coolest thing. Now you people got me wanting to sit and watch the whole damn series.
I hardly watch anything anymore, but I'm trying to start back with ghost in the shell:SAC because I never got to finish it and I'm a sucker for anything by Shirow Masamune.

Was that the arc where they had the alpha and beta veritech fighters that could join together?
