“MONK” of “Rabbit In The Moon” Rabbit in the Moon | www.hallucination.com (http://www.hallucination.com) | Miami, FL
From small dark clubs to massive outdoor festivals, always turning it out - it is here where you, the subterranean public may encounter The Monk.... the Mack-Of-All-Trades, dj/producer/artist and overall hustler of culture. Banging out a soundtrack of underground party music that jumps from hard house and breaks to slamming disco-tech, and twisted techno, to drum and bass rinse-outs, the dreadlocked Monk punishes the cross-fader as he works one record against another in a style that owes more to hip hop than to conventional club DJ'ing.
As one of the Founders of Rabbit in the Moon, Pimp Juice and Hallucination Records, Monk is a corner stone of the Southeastern U.S. Scene and has established himself as a devoted player in the Electronic Music Industry worldwide. Monk is best known for his early work and collaboration with Confucius in the collective "Rabbit in the Moon" and as the opening dj to the RITM live show for over a decade ('92-2002). Together, Confucius and the Monk have remixed several multi-platinum artists including Sarah McLachlan, The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, and White Zombie, while their original tracks have graced the dj mix cds of international superstars like Sasha & John Digweed.
Monk is now breaking new ground with several innovative audio-visual projects, establishing a new solo career apart from R.I.T.M., and running Hallucination Recordings full time. Monk, with partner "The Track Mack", still keeps busy remixing world renowned artists like Sting, Limp Bizkit, and Britney Spears. Constantly in demand, his remixes are taking the Billboard Dance / Club Play charts by storm, and charting in BILLBOARDS' TOP TEN with Cooler Kids "Punk Debutante", Boomkat's "The Wreckoning", T.A.T.U.'s "All The Things She Said" and Petey Pablo's "Freek-A-Leek". Most recently, Monk's mix for Seal's "Crazy 2005" has peaked at &035;1 on the BILLBOARD dance/club play charts, while his remix of Britney Spears' "Do Something" has been included on her international single release. Monk's remix expertise is constantly in demand with industry professionals and artists.
One of the most versatile djs around, Monk is known for his unique dj sets ranging from his traditional hardbangin' house -vs- funky breaks style with a touch of drum & bass & hip hop, to a deeper "Dark Side Of The Monk" set that leans toward a darker tech-house meets tribal & disco house style. If Monk can't make yo' booty move, yo' booty must be dead. Headlining shows across the nation from nightclubs to giant festival massives, monk has earned his outstanding reputation has been voted in BPM magazine as receiving the "most fan email nominations" in the country and one of Americas Favorite DJs - March 2003. Monk has most certainly forged his place in the underground dance community. A forefather of the Hallucination-Generation, originator, innovator, guaranteed to rock tha party, Monk continues to freak the funk week in & week out. One Nation, Underground, Invisible. Halluci-nation…

Hmm...

I just read this on Lunar.....

Monk hasn't been a member of Rabbit In The Moon since like 2002. It should say "Monk of Rabbit in The Moon FAME" like it says on his MySpace. I just wanted to clear that up. It will be good to see him again though. He hasn't been here since I brought him for my Birthday Bashment last year. As a matter of fact, I think I have brought him the last 2 or 3 times he has been here.

I'll still be at both!!!

E-19 is doing big things! I can't wait!

Plus the sexy dancers. Can't miss out for those three!!!!

Internationally Acclaimed Vocal Turntablist "KERI"

Ok.... When did DJ Keri become a turntablist? I've always heard her singing over trance and house stuff. I don't believe I've ever seen her doing anything like DJ Shortee or scratch a record. I think if she tried to juggle records, do some flares and sing all at once she would spontanously combust.

LOL...Keri has done a lot since back in the day. As far as citting -n- scratchin, etc. I don't know. She just left At Large Entertainment, which is a respect agent in the industry, so she got the backing, none the less the billing comes directly from her CD " Can you Feel it"

It's about the music anyways, right?

I can't remember its been so long. It was either at masquerade spinning in pergatory or spinning the front room at the globe. I just got tickled when it had her labled as a "turntablist" and she hassn't once battle dj'd.

so the fact that she spins on turntables, doesn't make her a turntablist??

I are confused...

Triix

so this is the definition I found...from wikipedia

Turntablism is the art of manipulating sounds and creating music using phonograph turntables (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph) and a DJ mixer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJ_mixer). The word was coined circa 1994 to describe the difference between a DJ who just plays records, and one who performs by touching and moving the records, stylus and mixer to manipulate sound.

...Now for anyone who has ever heard Keri perform, you know she not only manipulates the sounds and effects coming from the records, but also her voice. So, by definition, she is in fact, a turntablist. Thanks, and see you all at the show!! :)

You should of read more of the wiki. Dj Babu coined the term long ago and he's a battle/hip hop dj. Cueing up a record and twiddling a knob on the EQ doesn't count.

Here is a video of another local ATL female dj who IS a turntablist along with her husband. Now see the difference.

So you are the official person who says what counts and what doesn't? Alright, whatever. She's an awesome DJ and a great vocal performer and also a really good whatever it that you call those people that spin records, manipulate sounds and vocals, and scratches but doesn't battle.
Cos' ya know apparently you can't call em turntablists...LOL.

all I know is when I met Keri at Femme Fatale, she was 1 of the nicest people ever...so I'm happy to have her with E19. She's been really cool, AND she loves the music...hey that's A+ in my book....as long as she loves what she does....rock out....

just my 2 cents..

No I didn't state I can name who is or who isn't. If simpling adjusting the EQ on the mixer makes you a "turntablist" then all the sound guys at shows are instant turntablist for adjusting sound levels. All I've ever seen Keri do is DJ and sing over the top. I've never seen her go into scratch routines, beat juggle or anything which is what "turntablist" battle dj's, good hip hop dj's and anyone else that wants to step up their DJing performance does. It just irks me when someone labels themself or gets labeled something they are clearly not. Its about the same as avril lavigne claiming she is punk rock.

But this has gone off topic more than it should have. Have fun at the show.

And yes I know she teaches classes, she even has some tutorial videos out too. Her and her husband Faust used to run some workshops for djing long ago, not sure if they still do as busy as they are. Both of em are pretty nice people and their wedding was something to see.
