At first, I was going to make a thread about my dinner Saturday night. Then I wanted to talk about my Super Bowl dinner. THEN I had a stroopwafel, and I had to tell you guys about that...so I condensed it into one food thread.
------
Saturday night I did NOT get sushi as planned. Instead Doug and I went out to Chops with his brother and sister-in-law. And whaddaya know, an acquaintance of ours is a chef there! He was leaving, but he had the kitchen send some tasty fried scallops to our table. We also had some lobster bisque and crab. Everyone else got steak, but I had to satisfy my desire for raw fish, so I ordered some tuna, cooked rare. It was good, but nothing compared to the ribeye. That meat was nearly orgasmic. Nice and crispy on the outside, but still perfectly juicy and tender inside with just the right amount of fat marbled through.
And it was pretty much free, for various reasons.
------
Sunday, we had typical Super Bowl fare, some chicken nuggets, ranch potatoes and the BEST onion rings. And the best cheesy poofs. (http://www.fritolay.com/fl/flstore/cgi-bin/Nutrition_ProdID_3080.htm)
When I went grocery shopping for that stuff, I saw that the Kroger I go to now carries stroopwafels! Or maybe they did before, and I never noticed...but that made me pretty happy. If you like sweets and you've never had one, find them. It's two layers of crispy waffle sandwiched around syrup (I got the kind with honey). So good.
------
Tonight I need to get my sushi fix.

Oh, those both look tasty!
I make a pretty damn good apple pie, but I got a frozen apple pie on Sunday. It was a decent substitute, though, especially since it took practically no effort.
...food is always a good conversation topic.

No sushi last night. I forgot we had to watch "24". So we ordered cheesesteaks and ate them with those awesome cheesy poofs.
Maybe I'll finally get sushi tonight.

The best onion rings:
Slice 'em and soak in buttermilk.
Shake off excess buttermilk and dredge in seasoned flour.
Let rings sit for a while.
Dredge again if you want crustier onion rings. I usually do it twice.
Heat oil to 375 degrees F. Fry rings until golden and delicious.
I do chicken nuggets/fingers the same way, but I dredge them 3 or 4 times.

Speaking of runny pb... Make a batch of brownies, pour half of the batter in the pan, melt some pb in the micro until it's runny, drizzle on brownies, and then pour the rest of the brownie batter in the pan. drizzle some more pb on top. bake for recommended amount of time, cool, frost, and drizzle more pb on top. YUM

A friend of mine makes Heath bar brownies. So rich but soooooo good.
I usually stir ground espresso into brownie batter.

That's because you're not used to it. Start with simple breakfast foods, like cereal. I used to never eat breakfast, and now I couldn't go without it.

you should just dip it in gravy at that point, that way you don't notice the lack of crunch.
