I've been noticing a lot more people post on the audio board about production. :headbang: Just wanted to get an idea of who produces and what/how you like to produce. It would be nice to exchange ideas/tips/tracks with more local people. I'll start:

Styles: DnB, breaks, house, glitch, triphop, hip hop and funk. I primarly do DnB though.

Gear: PC 2ghz p4/512 | M-audio delta 66 Omni Studio soundcard | M-audio Radium MIDI keyboard | M-audio StudioPhile monitors | Gibson Les Paul | Yamaha pf10 | technics 1200s mk2s

Software: Tons, the core stuff: Cubase SX, Absynth, Kontact, Waves plugins, Izotope Trash/Ozone, Ohmboyz (all of em), Linplug RM IV, about 30 sample CDs

Audio links:
Dangerous Men (w&p moka + Protoculture) (http://www.subtechaudio.com/sta/Audio/Tunes/mp-dangermen.ram)
Nothing real new, just think it is something we did that can be appreciated more by the non dnb audience.

Lets get this started guys.

Nice thread. I produce mainly IDM, me and Numonik are working on a track right now together. But I've strayed trip hop and ambient from time to time. PC is a 1.5 ghz P4 with 1 GB of DDR RAM. Have an Ibanez 540, Yamaha DJ-X, Korg EA-1, Boss SP-202. 2 of which are running into the comp. I use Reason 2.0 for tweeking and Logic for the sequencing and Koblo for some off the wall analogue sounds here and there. I dont use many PC based synths, I'm still big into hardware. Saving up for an Emu XK-6 right now, wanna get a JP-8000 but still too expensive. I'll post the link of a track I've done in a few, I'll have to upload it somewhere.

Any of you thought of making some modular stuff?? If you have the electrical skillz here is a site to check out:

Solder me!! (http://www.oakleysound.com/)

That will keep you busy a while. it took me 9 months to make my tb 303 emulator......here is a shot of the circuit board from the designer.

http://www.oakleysound.com/complete-3.jpg

It might have taken a long time but it sure is fun to play with now.

Oh and my linndrum has midi ports!!! The creator of the linndrum is also the original creator of the mpc line of samplers from akai!

Here is something im dying to get!!! Midi controllable knobs on a 909 emulator!!!

http://www.jomox.de/images/XBase1.jpg

and here is the link to it!!

Kid Dynamite

No problem man! Names jj i hate being called KD LOL :D

If your gonna build one then your gonna need a midi to cv converter:

http://www.kentonuk.com/homepage/index.shtml

They also sell midi converter kits for old pre midi analog keyboards
like roland mc 202 and tb 303. Im eyeing the kit for the korg polysix but i hav other shit to buy right now, hell i can sample the waveform and load it in my sampler if necessary!!

later

I just installed Cubase SX 2.0!!!!!!!!!!

jaksajak
10-07-2003, 11:44 AM
what are some of the advantages of 2.0 over any of the earlier SX versions?

moka
10-08-2003, 12:29 AM
2.0 has what is called "freeze" This alows you to instally bounce down to WAV and automatically replace a MIDI event. (instead of having to set loop points, solo instrument, click bounce, etc.) It also has a new type of track that basically allows you to open up the result of send/return channel into and individual audio file (fucking awesome!!!!) I *think* it also has full sidechaining capability now, which allows you to do things like ducking while using compression.

I make Rap/ Hip Hop trax on the mpc 2000.

I make Breaks and trance using logic audio platinum.

sometimes I use both logic and the mpc for both.
Whenever you sample drums into the mpc, the sound is hard and snappy. If you want good drums, dont record straight out the module, run through a sampler!!!

I can talk for hours about this shit. check out

doubt i'd believe it if i hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

as for myself, i've got a computer, a roland midi piano, and an MC09. don't really see why i should spend all my money on equipment when one of my best friends has a $1/4 million studio in his house (belonging to his roomie) that we're allowed to use for free twice a week. we just finished our first track together, so PM me if you'd like a copy.
